We believe every dog deserves to live life to the fullest. Whether we’re finding them a loving home or offering their owner a helping hand. Campaigning for change in the UK, or vaccinating dogs on the other side of the globe. We work tirelessly to make the world a better place for our furry friends.

Here’s what we’ve achieved in 2024, all thanks to your support.

2024 in numbers...

Finding forever homes

  • We cared for 11,707 dogs through our rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland.
  • We found new homes for 10,612 dogs in the UK and Ireland. Including 523 Underdogs who had been with us for more than six months.
  • 3,203 dogs were fostered by our amazing volunteer foster carer network.
  • Our vets gave over 12,000 essential vaccinations. And 3,000 veterinary procedures including dental care, neutering and other surgeries.
  • We reopened our rebuilt centre in Ballymena, with 41 new kennels designed to minimise stress and maximise comfort. Plus designated quiet kennels, a puppy unit and large open spaces for exercise and play.
  • We celebrated the 5th anniversary of our Penrith rehoming centre, and the 9,000 dogs we’ve cared for since it opened. We also launched a new fleet of vans based at the centre to transport dogs to our rehoming centers around the UK; giving them the best chance at finding their forever homes.

Supporting dogs and people in crisis

  • We gave free, expert advice to 8,191 dog owners through our Behaviour Support Line.
  • Our community clinical animal behaviour team supported 2,259 owners who needed extra help with their dog's behaviour.
  • We helped 339 people find safety from domestic abuse, by offering free, confidential fostering for their dogs through our Freedom service.
  • We supported 774 dogs whose owners were at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness, funding 1,881 vet treatments. We also helped 19 homelessness services to become dog friendly through our Together Through Homelessness service.
  • When new restrictions came into effect for American Bully XL type dogs, we offered advice for owners through our website and emails.
  • We funded £96,520 worth of emergency treatment for 857 dogs through our Emergency Fund. Helping dog owners on low income with large or unexpected vet bills.

Preventing problems and improving welfare

  • We continued our campaign to end the cruel puppy smuggling trade. The General Election in 2024 halted a Bill we had been backing for years, but we kept fighting and have finally seen progress in 2025.
  • Over 400,000 people responded to our National dog Survey to tell us about their dogs, and the joys and concerns of dog ownership. The survey helps us shape our services to support the real needs of dog owners.
  • We welcomed the 9,000th dog to Generation Pup, our groundbreaking study following dogs throughout their lifetime.

International impact

With our sister charity WVS, and partner organisations in 28 countries, we’ve made incredible strides to protect dogs around the world. Our veterinary teams directly treated an animal every five minutes throughout 2024. Across the year, we:

  • vaccinated 1.38m dogs against rabies
  • educated 3.6m children and adults about rabies prevention
  • neutered 166,000 dogs to reduce stray dog populations
  • funded 60 dog welfare projects, with 42 partner organisations, in 28 countries.

In Cambodia, our staff and volunteers worked together to roll out a huge vaccination and spay and neuter programme. In just 12 working days, a record-breaking 230,000 dogs were vaccinated.
